Conference Grants

Deadline for Conference Grants is December 31, 2020

Supporting students in their journeys toward intellectual discovery is an important aspect of our work. Shelby Jane Seyburn participated in professional conferences regularly, and they greatly benefited her in many ways. The connections she created and knowledge she gained through like-minded colleagues were what contributed to her passion for PTG. We hope to spread the same benefits to other OU students looking to make a positive impact in our communities.

Application for Conference Grant

Applicant Information:

The Shelby Jane Seyburn Foundation Conference Grant was established by the family and friends of Shelby Seyburn and the students and staff of Oakland University to honor the memory of Shelby, a 2017 Oakland University honors graduate, who lost her life in a car accident in 2017.

All Psychology students participating in a lab at Oakland University are eligible to apply for the SJS Conference Grant. Dollar amounts of grant awards fluctuate each event based on our investment earnings.

This grant is for students seeking financial assistance to attend a Lab Related Event. Lab Related Event means:

  1. Travel to attend/present at academic or professional conferences (all regional, national, and international conferences will be eligible), including registration fees (but not membership fees) for virtual conferences.
  2. Travel to participate in professional research related skills training workshops.*
  3. Travel to conduct research activities (e.g. travel to study site to collect data, etc.)*

*Travel may not be applicable during the current global pandemic.

Applicants will be notified via email by January 9.
